Family Peers were delighted to have been given the opportunity to participate in this valuable training, which helps raise awareness and challenge perceptions about the causes and impact of sexual violence. Although this may not be something that comes up too often as part of our supporting role, its aim is to help people know how to respond appropriately and with compassion if someone discloses an experience of sexual violence.

The training provided us with an overall insight into the culture and myths that exist in our society in relation to  sexual violence and was developed from a trauma informed perspective. The morning was not only enlightening and educational but also reinforced the importance of self care as well as providing an introduction to the history and the work of Mayo Rape Crisis Centre.
