Family Peer Support workers Qualify from DCU with Certificate in Peer Support Working in Mental Health

Congratulations to the four Family Peer Support Workers based in Mayo MHS, who recently qualified with formal qualifications in Peer Support working in Mental Health from both DCU and ATU.

The course provided people with lived experience of supporting a loved one, skills to work as a professional family peer support worker who can provide non-judgemental, peer-led support to family members of people who may be experiencing mental health challenges.

When a mental health challenge presents itself it can affect the whole family, and quite often family members focus on the needs of their loved one, and may be slow to get support for themselves. The family peer support worker can offer information, provide on-going emotional support and can direct families to other resources and services that might help the family cope positively with the challenges they face.
