Galway / Roscommon Mental Health Services

A mental health crisis can occur when our own capacity to respond becomes overwhelmed.
There are twelve Community Mental Health Teams across Galway/Roscommon.
Roscommon County (x 2 Teams)
East Galway (Ballinasloe and Portumna/Monksland x 2 Teams)
Loughrea and Tuam (x 2 Teams)
Galway City (x 4 Teams)
Galway West (includes Connemara x 2 Teams)
There are two Specialist Rehab and Recovery Teams – one based in Ballinasloe and the other based in Merlin Park. There are a total three Psychiatry of Later Life Teams – with a fourth team being established. One of these Teams is based in Galway City. The other three are in Galway County and Roscommon.
In addition, there is a Mental Health Homeless team in Galway City and a Peri-Natal Psychiatry Team in Galway University Hospital.
Galway has a population of over 276,451 and Roscommon’s population is over 69,995 (Census figures 2022)

Note: The current geographical locations of the nine CHOs will change to six new Regional Health Areas (RHAs) in 2024 as part of the Sláintecare Health Plan in the delivery of healthcare services in Ireland.
